Newspaper of Bangladesh:

In the world of digitalization, we still rely on traditional resources. We always believe no matter how much revolutionized the resources are, there will always be some room for traditional media. Among all those traditional media, a Newspaper is one of those things which is considered to be the first choice for reading before starting a day.

It’s amazing that now there are E-Newspaper with more captivating content. But still, print media experts say a newspaper would always be a minimal viable product in the print media industry.

A newspaper is a European invention that was started back in 1566. In the first place, it was hand-written. After 1609, the first newspaper was printed in Germany. Until the 19th century, it remained a censored material for the government officials, agents, and the people from the law. It used to have a comparatively higher price since it was considered a semi-confidential resource back then.

After 1830, the print media came in a quite good position and the industry was benefitted from the usage of high-speed presses. As a result, it could easily print a thousand newspapers and time after time, the cost for producing a newspaper came at an endurable level.

It took a certain amount of time for the newspaper to become a product for all people. However, the adverse influence of the newspaper was predicted a long time ago, then again something needed to be done for getting rid of the dying business model of the newspaper.

After some major events like Banga Bhanga ( Division of Bangla State from Indian Subcontinent in 1906), World War I, World War II, and the partition of Bengal through the independence of India and Pakistan – the print media emerged with a bigger role in the society. In the first place, there were no such publishers as most of them shifted to India after partition. At that time, Daily Azad, The Ittehad, and some other newspapers used to be printed from Kolkata.

Mainly, The Daily Ittefaq, The Pakistan Observer, and The Sangbad used to be the main newspapers printed in Bangladesh.

After the independence in 1971, local newspapers’ number started increasing. With the daily newspapers on board, weekly newspapers started getting published too. In the mid-90s, the journalism profession was one of the most prestigious occupations. It was made possible only because of heavy practice in this sector.

After 2010, newspapers started to take place in the online segment. As a result, there were emerging online news portals on the web. Currently, the Prothom Alo is the highest circulated daily newspaper in our country with 395710 copies. The Daily Star has been the English newspaper with the highest circulated copies (40726).
